Dr. Brinell Anderson Slocumb
Brinell Anderson Slocumb, Psy.D. is a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the state of California. She is a graduate of George Fox University (Newberg, Oregon) with a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. Her academic record includes a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Psychology and Ethnic Studies from University of Texas at Austin; a Master of Science degree in Community Psychology from Florida A & M University; and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University. Her clinical experience ranges from substance abuse residential treatment to group psychotherapy and individual psychotherapy with adult clients with severe psychiatric problems within both community mental health settings as well as college campuses. Dr. Slocumb’s clinical areas of specialization are in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, working with culturally diverse populations, integrating spiritual issues in psychotherapy, and Behavioral Medicine, with a unique emphasis in HIV Mental Health. She has been a full-time core faculty within the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Phillips Graduate Institute in Encino, CA. She is currently a part-time staff psychologist at University of Southern California Health Science campus at the Eric Cohen Student Health Center as well as in private practice in Pasadena, CA.
In addition to Dr. Slocumb’s diverse clinical experience, she has participated in multiple conference presentations and invited colloquia in which her passion for issues devoted to mental and spiritual health and the Pan Afrikan community has been demonstrated. With a desire to increase the African-American’s community awareness of mental health issues, Dr. Slocumb contributed an article on “Tips for Counseling Katrina Hurricane Survivors” for Gospel Today magazine.
